Introduction
Cooper et, al. (2007) argues that about 5.8 million people in the United States suffer from cardiomyopathy and heart failure and nearly 700, 000 new cases are diagnosed each year. In the opinion of these scholars, these two conditions mainly occur as a result of the lifestyle of an individual but can also come along with aging. American cardiologists came up with palliative care, which is expert care aimed at calming the quality of life by reducing stress and symptoms for people living with this problem. Patients with a basic condition of the illness experience a sequence of complaints such as nausea, pain, labored breathing, depression, and anxiety.
Care Approach
In light of this, Mr. P who is suffering from the illness should be given a caregiver to guide him on dietary issues and his medication. He should eat natural foods which are fresh since they contain less salt. Moreover, Mr. P should have enough rest and avoid smoking and have his blood pressure checked regularly. If the condition worsens, the caregiver should take Mr. P to the hospital.
Treatment plan
The treatment plan for cardiomyopathy and heart failure varies widely, ranging right from the diet to surgical procedures aimed at assisting the heart to execute its functions well as well as non-surgical procedures. For patients with mild conditions of the disease, the doctor may prescribe drugs to remove excess sodium in the body, keep a healthy heartbeat by lowering the blood pressure. Corticosteroids can also be used to reduce inflammation as well as diuretics, which help reduce sodium levels in the blood (CAPC website).
Another device that can be used to help the heart to pump blood in the body is the left ventricular assist device (LVAD). This method is ideal especially when a patient waits for a heart operation. A heart transplant is necessary if all other treatments fail. Thus, Mr. P is suitable for these medical procedures considering that his situation is still treatable.
