The concepts of epidemiology provide the framework for the study of infectious and chronic health issues/diseases, which provides a rich source of data for the analysis of trends in disease and health. This assignment will offer the learner the opportunity to explore the population health effects of a topic which will be assigned by your course faculty.
As an example, you may be asked to identify populations at risk for oral health issues or, for instance, issues related to the frail living at home, and design a population health focused educational intervention for your target population.
In addition, you will look at what outcomes will be addressed to determine if your interventions are effective. This paper should integrate HP2020 and CDC information into your paper.
Activity Learning Outcomes
Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
Identify appropriate outcome measures and study designs applicable to epidemiological sub-fields such as infectious disease, chronic disease, environmental exposures, reproductive health, and genetics. (CO3)
Identify important sources of epidemiological data. (CO6)
Due Date: Sunday by 11:59pm MT of Week 2
Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due. Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction of 10% of the total points possible for that assignment for each day the assignment is late. LGBTQIA Health
According to Healthy People (2020), health disparity is a difference in healthcare access, closely related to an individual being socioeconomically and environmentally disadvantaged. Among the individuals adversely affected are those who face obstacles before getting medical attention due to gender or sexual orientation, including gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender. The LGBTQIA faces social stigma and rejection from their families. Also, the structures of questions mostly do not have a template designed to accommodate them. Therefore, this essay examines the challenges that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA).
The LGBTQIA Aggregate Population
In 2002, approximately 4% of the US population aged 18-44 identified themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (HP, 2020). In Minnesota, in 2016, bias-based bullying cases were predominant among 8313 adolescents towards members of the LGBTQIA population (Shramko et al., 2019). The bias was on various life parameters, like race, gender expression, gender, ability, weight, and sexual orientation. However, greater bias acts were in the dimension of sexual orientation and gender expression at 35.2 % from the studies. The biased acts included direct physical harm, humiliation from peers, verbal threats, and social exclusion against the LGBTQIA compared to the regular age mates (Shramko et al., 2019). As a result, it became apparent that the LGBT population still faces much discrimination in various facilities, including pursuing mediation.
Population-Based Health Education Interventions Aimed at Reducing Morbidity and Mortality for the LGBTQ1A
Depression is a mental disorder leading to adverse health complications. According to North Carolina research, 60% OF LGBTQIA experience sad or hopeless moments daily than 60% of heterosexual young people (Hall et al., 2019). An intervention dubbed Being out with Strength (BOWS) conducted in the Triangle region of North Carolina aimed at equipping the young LGBTQIA population with stress management behavioral skills. As a result of depression, the young LGBTQIA gets exposure to risks such as missing school, substance abuse, contraction of chronic diseases such as diabetes and HIV/ AIDS. Consequently, the intervention dubbed BOWS became implemented in North Carolina for 79 LGBTQIA youths. In the exercise, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) was conducted on the sample population to manage and alleviate the stressors, resulting in depression. Consequently, there was a reduction in morbidity and mortality from diseases and the risk behaviors that young LGBTQIA resort to as coping mechanisms (Hall et al., 2019). The project's long-term aim is to transform the lives of the LGBTQIA who participates through a change in behavior and positivity when facing their regular heterosexual peers.
Identification of the Source of Data and the Intervention Process
For the survey, the purposive sampling technique identified the participants. The recruiting team advertised on a Facebook platform of LGBTQ for current college students and alumni to get young adult participants. In the ad, the project's objectiv...
