Understanding one's learning ability is critical for facilitating effective reading and writing. Various learning assessment tools would be utilized in identifying the strategies that individuals can apply in understanding their learning preferences. The VARK model identifies four primary learning styles that students may use; these include visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Additionally, it is critical to comprehend that students learn better when teaching methods match their learning styles. This literature analyzes and discusses my VARK model results and explains how learning styles can influence educational activities.
After completing the VARK questionnaire, the results were as follows: Visual: 5, Aural: 7, Read/Write: 4, and Kinesthetic: 10. Therefore, it is clear that my primary learning style is Kinesthetic, which had a score of ten points, and this means that I learn better and quickly when involved in experiments and other hands-on activities. Besides, this learning style necessitates that learners are provided with examples that they can relate to, which helps in remembering what was done (VARK Learn Limited, 2016). Besides, auditory learning received a score of seven points, making it my second-best learning approach. I like participating in discussions. I find it easy to remember what the teacher said in class. Learning with a high score in Aural mode must attend classes and listen carefully to the teacher. I recorded poor scores in visual (5) and Read/Write (4), respectively. This indicates that it is challenging to attain the intended learning outcomes when graphic representations are utilized, and when teaching is focused on reading textbooks and taking notes.
My current preferred learning strategies include practical exercises, experience, examples, case studies, and the use of trial and error. Ideally, most of these preferred methods are consistent with my learning style. Most of these learning strategies follow under Kinesthetic approach, which is my primary learning style. For example, Kinesthetic necessitates that learning becomes effective when a practical experience is involved. Only the use of trial and error does not contradict my main learning styles; this is because strategy does not involve the use of practical activities. Most importantly, practical exercises and case studies have been proved effective when utilized in specific subjects such as sciences. On the other side, examples help in Mathematics, where it becomes easy to follow what was done by the instructor.
An Individual's learning styles can significantly impact the learner's understanding and would also influence the effectiveness of educational activities.
