Journaling provides a valuable tool for recording, reflecting on, and reviewing your learning. This approach provides an opportunity for you to "connect the dots" and observe the relationships between and among activities, interactions, and outcomes.
Unlike a personal journal of thoughts and feelings, this Leadership Journal is a record of your activities, assessments, and learning related to this academic experience.
Journal entries should include a record of the number of hours spent with your nurse leader each week.
Write a journal entry of 750-1,500 words on the subject of provision, including the following:
1. Provide observations and thoughts on the activities in 2-week continued Practicum on Oncology unit.
2. Describe how your nurse leader influences the work environment. Consider how influence protects and values others in the work environment.
3. Identify two or more ways your own leadership could promote a feeling of protection and honor in your work environment.
4. Reflect on at least two things you learned from the "Issue of Headship" video.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Observations and Thoughts on Activities during 2-Week Practicum on Oncology Unit.
The first observation that I made in during the Practicum on Oncology is the outstanding nature of the level of collaboration among team members. The nurse leader played a key role not only in directing the team but also in helping develop nurse leadership skills among the team members. As part of the team I was able to identify key nurse leadership roles but most importantly was the ability to influence the team members towards achieving a common goal. The nurse leader was more interested not only in the patient safety and patient positive outcome but also the safety of the healthcare providers. He laid down systems and procedures to guide every operation that took place and also was keen in collecting data and evaluating the effectiveness of how well the healthcare has met its objectives. He collected this data on a weekly basis and could call for meetings on how well the objectives can be achieved and pointed out on the ways and strategies to improve the outcome. In my view, the nurse leader and the entire team created a great environment not only to practice as an oncologist but also in enhancing leadership skills and professional development. Given an opportunity I could like to work with such a team.
How The Nurse Leader Influences the Work Environment and How It Protects and Values Others in the Work Environment.
The nurse leader ensured that all workers in the healthcare adhered strictly to the nursing safety standards when carrying their nursing duties. To achieve this effectively, the nurse leader had charts and safety guidelines in the operation rooms which guided the nurses on different procedures when handling the patients. Secondly, the nurse leader focused on utilizing the evidence based nursing practices in order to effectively improve not only the patient outcome but also enhance the safety of the nurses (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015). Thirdly, the nurse leader engaged other nurses and members of the staff in every decision that he made. More interestingly, he approached us, the students on practicum oncology, and consulted us on key aspects that affect the healthcare delivery. This made me feel that I am part of the team and that my contribution to the team adds a great value. Also, the leader believed that when people are demotivated the leaders should restore the lost motivation and inspiration by encouraging them through guidance and counseling programs. The leader played an important role in coming up with patient education strategy on how well they can manage their healthy through collaboration with the healthcare providers. He personally talked to the patients and advised them on the need to adhere to the tr...
