I have been a Registered Nurse since February 1st, 2017. Soon, I will have my Baccalaureate in Sciences of Nursing degree from olompic College. I also attended Olompic College for my Associate Degree in Nursing in December 2016, graduating with distinction, and to complete my nursing prerequisites with an Associates in Arts in General Studies degree with high distinction.

Development Plan for professional improvement

There are several continuing education courses I plan to attend over the next few years of my career. One of the important skills I perform as a nurse is blood draws for laboratory testing, and I would like to improve my knowledge and expertise by taking the two part venipuncture course offered in my area. There are also several seminars and courses related to my current specialization; behavioral health and eating disorders. The nursing specialty of eating disorder treatment requires skills in behavioral health, nutrition, and cardiac health. I have previously done research on the combination of substance use and eating disorders, and would like to continue to extend this knowledge. I would like to explore the links between anxiety and maladaptive behaviors such as disordered relationships with food and self medicating through substance use. I plan to continue my own research individually as well as collaborate with other professionals to gain insight into their experiences.

I am a nurse for over 10 years since June 2008 and will update my skills, education, and knowledge as a BSN graduate. I worked as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and focused on assisting and rehabilitating patients requiring better care to improve health outcomes.
While working in the medical and surgical departments, I provided support and care for patients requiring specialized treatment, and this helped me identify ways that patients would be more open to integrating self-management strategies in health interventions. While nursing procedures are necessary in different departments for situations that required surgical care, there was a more in-depth look into the patient treatment and discharge planning to improve outcomes even after the patients had left the hospital.
My nursing experience working with behavioral health patients has taught me the need to prioritize professionalism and compassion to provide the best care in positive treatment environments gaining sound patient care. Knowledge helps to provide quality care and will further my education to gain more skills applicable to nursing practice to provide safe and effective care.
