The abuse of opioid is a disease with natural history (Stoicea, N., et al 2019). The United States was drastically affected and it arose as a result of medical practitioners’ efforts to manage pain. Pharmaceutical manufacturers commonly referred to as “The Big Pharma”, also played part in marketing practices (Soelberg, C. D., et a1 2017)
 The C-SPAN video is about an investigative hearing by a sub-committee on oversight and investigation concerning the opioid crisis. The United States is in a fight to eradicate overdose fatalities and cases which have become a national crisis. In 2015, more than fifty-two thousand residents died due to drug overdoses which were a 23% increase. There have been several reports in the media of children watching helplessly as their parents’ overdose opioids.
The hypothesis proposed in the discussion was to understand the problems and gaps relating to the opioid crisis and measures to combat the epidemic due to its devastating effects on the nation. From the discussion, the researchers were able to obtain their answers. The answers came from the testimonies from witnesses and reports by key stakeholders especially governors, who described the state of the epidemic in their areas of governance.
INTERVENTIONS UTILIZED
The intervention measures covered education, substance abuse prevention, treatment by physicians, access to VIVITROL, testing of drugs in correctional centers, and allocation of resources.
Regulation of Opioids Manufacturers:
Opioid manufacturers engage in deceptive practices while marketing their products and this called for measures to prevent them. The Attorney General of the State of Colorado joined hands with other parties to investigate the role of manufacturers in the opioid pandemic and came up with solutions to regulate them.
Reconnecting People with Substance Use Illnesses:
Rhodes Island is leading in reconnecting those with drug overdose disorders with trained counselors to help them in the recovery process. Kentucky has established similar programs to facilitate medical assessment to prisoners and continue offering support after their release. Maryland State has also established an efficient crisis facility.
Expansion of Medicaid Coverage:
