Infectious Disease Case Study
Prevention of infectious diseases is one of the essential tasks mandated to public health sectors in all countries. Contagious diseases are deceptive, and some only get detected after they have spread and affected people and animals. Infectious diseases from outside the country may be challenging to identify and control, primarily due to the import laws that prevent detention and inspection of animals and other food products upon arrival at the port. However, different health agencies, including the CDC, have worked together in the monkey pox case to prevent its spread.
An active Public health infrastructure enables the government to prepare and respond to infectious and chronic threats to the country’s health. One of the vital components of public health that require strengthening is funding. Without funding, all the other elements would not function, and the entire health department would be rendered ineffective (Lagier et al., 2017). Communication is the other component that needs strengthening is communication; in the monkey pox case, the effectiveness of communication determined the speed at which the infection got contained and all the animals re-assessed.
Trust is one of the most critical components of proper leadership in dealing with the outbreak of an infectious disease. Likewise, a leader’s ability to prioritize indispensable goals and articulate their value is another critical leadership characteristic (Feld & Mahan, 2019). In the monkey pox case, there were different species of animals, including rodents and dogs that were possible carriers of the monkey pox. Management of the infectious disease would have been more effective if the coordinator would have identified the first infection and searched for it for detailed analysis to determine the source of the infectious disease.
