How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market? How will increasing your level of education affect your role in the future of nursing? The recommendations of the Future of Nursing were proposed to improve the delivery of care, patient safety and the quality of care commitment to continuous education and actively engaging in the promotion of quality of care is equally important where nurses have the right skills and can integrate best evidence in clinical decision making and in research.  As the US health care system is increasingly complex, and nurses need to be well prepared for changes in health care, education is one way to improve their ability to carry out their roles and responsibilities (Thompson et al., 2018). The nursing workforce is diverse and here are more nurses now working in long-term care and mental health, and it is important to prepare for the future. I am currently finishing up my BSN program and pursue my MSN, at least to start it by 2020, and believe that continuous learning is important to maintain competency and to provide efficient and effective health care services. The recommendations are relevant in my professional development since there is focus on gaining skills and relevant experience to be better prepared to meet the demands of individual patients and the populations (Daw & Terhaar, 2017). Nurse education affects patient outcomes, and nurses with least a baccalaureate degree in nursing are better placed to monitor patient conditions and intervening where necessary. Experience is also necessary since having experienced staff and the staffing nurses’ skill mix improves staffing and patient care. Earning an advanced degree in nursing and improved nurse education improves health care practice, and higher education gives me better opportunities in the job market. Funding to support to improve nursing education is one of the top priorities so that nurses can practice the full extent of their education and training.
