Importance of nursing theory
Name
Institution
Nursing theory is an arranged framework of concepts assumptions and purposes planned to provide guidance to the nursing practice. A nursing theory is created to depict nursing care, provide a clinical decision making foundation and guide practice of nursing. Nursing theories are classified into grand theories, middle range theories and nursing practice theories and they can further be categorized into holistic, adaptation and behavioral theories. A nursing has basic concepts, which include client, environment, health, and nursing. The client is the person receiving nursing care. Environment is the external and internal surroundings that affect the patient or the client. Health concept is the extent of wellbeing the patient get to experience and nursing are the attributes, behavior and actions of the person giving care to the client. Mostly nurses develop nursing theories but healthcare professionals develop them too. The specific theory to be used in the assignment is the theory of Novice to Expert theory by Patricia Beller, which does not necessarily talk about how to be a nurse. The paper is divided into sections which include; the importance of nursing theory section. The summary of the selected theory section. Application of the specific nursing theory to selected professional nursing practice area section and finally the conclusion section.
Importance of Nursing Theory
A nursing theory is important to the nursing profession in general because it explains and describes the nursing phenomenon. It provides foundation from which knowledge can be generated and help in pointing out in which direction in the future nursing should develop. It describes nursing which helps in clearly distinguishing what should form the foundation of practice (Fawcett et al 2012).
