America is comprised of a diverse cultural background, I have come from North Carolina, am a white Caucasian and we are the majority living in North Carolina. The white Caucasians comprise of the sixty percent of the total population in Northern Carolina. Having been born in America, as I was growing up, I have come to learn that my culture is different from others based on different features like skin color, language, and our religious beliefs. My parents are native Caucasians from Europe, who migrated to the US. Religion has been a significant part of our family history and religion shapes our behavior. I come from a strong Christian background.
In our family, we value individualism than collectiveness, living in a neighborhood where houses are scattered there are minimal interaction among neighbours. People rarely come to together unless we meet at social events like school games or popular social events like fundraisers organized by local charitable organizations. Social events give us the opportunity to meet other families. Even though we don't live with relatives like my aunts, uncles, and grandparents we value them. Once in a while, especially during important holidays, we drive down to Jacksonville to spend time with them.
My mother and father are employed, most of my time when I was growing up, I spent my time at the local daycare center until later in the evening. However, my parents ensured that I had the best when I was growing up. I felt lonely being the only child, my father was always conducting business on the phone, while my mother was always on her computer working from home even on weekends. Despite having a tight schedule, my mother had one special day every week, that is on Sunday. She would cook for us as we enjoyed her home made meals.
In Carolina most residents are Christians this is evident because several churches being visible, we do not go to church regularly, but we value special church occasions like Easter holidays and Christmas holidays. During these occasions, people gather together in church to celebrate as they reunite with their family members. As part of our family tradition, we prefer taking precaution, my parents ensured that everyone one in the family has a medical insurance that is renewed annually. We go for annual medical examination, everyone in my family has been fully vaccinated and my parent has taken all the necessary steps to avoid preventive illnesses that seem to be costly to treat.
As part of preventive measures, we like taking short walks, as part of physical exercises to stay healthy. My parents prefer palliative care services to manage terminal illnesses. I recall one day visiting my sick grandfather living outside of town. My parents had suggested that he would receive better care services than being in a nursing home. Despite receiving the best care, my grandfather eventually died. My grandfather's death inspired me to want to be part of the healthcare profession because I wanted to make people feel better and stay healthy.
