Introduction
Based on the definition of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, equity in health is the achievement of the highest possible level of health that pertains to all people. Where individual-level factors are concerned, issues such as policy environments, social concerns, built and physical matters, have a tremendous impact on the overall outcomes of health. The government has had a problem of addressing population-level factors. The most fundamental factors in the attainment of health equity, are the linkage between policy, science, and practice. It is therefore inevitable for the government and the related stakeholders, to assume their role in making this happen. The differences that are realized in health and the vital determinants of health should be accorded the priority that they deserve. There ought to be proper measures in place to affect the most needed change. The disparities in health should be accorded the necessary attention at the national level, for the realization of effective health outcomes (Penman-Aquilar et al., 2016). This paper analyses systematically, the issues about health equity, determinants of health and matters of policy and how the national health sector of the U.S. requires a preview, from the rightful stakeholders.
According to report from the CDC Health and Disparities, (2013) the last 50 years have seen the U.S. improve its mortality rate significantly, with the mortality rate gaining an improvement from 70 years to 79 years because of realizing the importance of living together as a unified community, with more productive lifestyles. This rate, however, is not the expected rate of transformation and that is the reason why it is still grappling with the menace. All that really counts is getting a balance between socioeconomic dynamics, sex, race and geographical location of the citizens (Frieden, 2016). According to this report, four findings were evident: firstly, cardiovascular disease happens to be the leading killer in, Non-Hispanic Black adults are 50% likely to die of a stroke or heart disease. Secondly, compared to non-Hispanic Whites and Asians, it is more likely that diabetes is prevalent amongst the non-Hispanic blacks and Hispanics. It is also rife among the people without college degrees and the minimum income for their households. On the issue of infant mortality, non-Hispanic blacks have a high rate more than double that one of the non-Hispanic whites (Frieden, 2016). Lastly, men have a higher likelihood of committing suicide than women (Frieden, 2016).
