Introduction
In 1972, John Travis who was a medical practitioner stated that the overall wellness of a person is more than just the presence or absences of symptoms of a particular disease. He then presented an illness-wellness continuum model which represented the overall physical as well as the mental and emotional condition of the person. The model focuses on the overall wellness of a patient instead of just on their treatment plan. This includes various parameters. This assignment is going to discuss the relevance of the model with the patient care. Beisdes that, real example in this regard will also be presented in light of the respected model.
Discussion
Health Illness Continuum and its Significance in Patient Care
One of the significant features of the illness-wellness continuum is the fact that not only it focuses on the treatment plan of the person in case of any disease, but it also gives attention towards the overall well being (Ahha, 2019). In the past, there were cases in which people suffered from extreme emotional states; but as there was no physical evidence, not much attention was given towards it (Health, 2019). This is dangerous as it has the potential to lead towards detrimental consequences. The illness-wellness model is presented below:

The right side of the presented model indicates wellness while the left represents the illness. There is also a neutral point in the middle that signifies the absence of any disease (Ahha, 2019). However, the neutral is the point where the person is physically stable but not mentally or emotionally. The right side also represents the awareness, individual growth, and education that the patients have. People who are both mentally and physically stable as well as they have all the essential education and awareness regarding it lies on the very right side of the model and this side indicates health perfection from both physical and mental perspective (Ahha, 2019). Patients receive an insight into their overall state through this treatment and wellness paradigm. Therefore, it could be said that this model is convenient to deliver patient care adequately. The illness-wellness continuum focuses on spreading awareness and education the patients regarding their condition (Health, 2019). This is significant as patients education is something that helps in prevention as well as the prognosis in case of the disease.
There are several examples that could differentiate between the treatment paradigm and the wellness paradigm. One of the examples of this model is supposed a person who is suffering from diabetes. If the person only focuses on the treatm...
