Consider the spread of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, avian flu, H1N1, or SARS. These diseases have quickly crossed oceans and spread to a variety of countries. They are a public health concern in the U.S. as well as other countries.

BSN nurses should be concerned with global health issues since healthcare is a major factor in addressing issues of the world. There are still parts of the globe in which people lack adequate food, in which communicable illnesses like malaria ran rampant yet this disease can actually be eradicated, and the AIDS epidemic continues. The world has shrunk in many ways. Other than being concerned with issues within their own local environment, nurses need to think beyond that considering that health and disease are global. Healthcare and disease are actually not limited to borders (Glasper, 2013). Nurses are important in advancing public and global health and play a unique role as leaders in changing the future of the world’s health. Nursing is essential to the definition of global health. It is notable that nursing staffs could play a more significant role than only delivering the care. Nurses could help in shaping policy regarding how care needs to be provided and come up with best-case scenarios for improvement in life as well as building a country’s health capacity (Holtz, 2013).
