My motivation for becoming a nurse developed from me watching helplessly as my grandmother battled ovarian cancer. Right from diagnosis, everyone in the family knew this was going to be an uphill battle for her and all us, ensuring she lived the remaining days of her life healthy, comfortable and happy as the diagnosis confirmed our worst fears that she would not get better. For me, it was the most heartbreaking experience as I watched her go through pain and discomfort from cancer without the ability to relieve the pain or make her better. The feeling of lack of power to assist her to recover instead of passing away profoundly disturbed me. The anguish pushed me to seek a career where I would be in a position to take control and help the rest of my family if they ever got sick, and I ended up selecting a career in nursing. My passion for serving other people as a nurse and my leadership capabilities informed my option of clinical nurse leader. The choice will facilitate the advancement of my career through providing new knowledge, which will enable me to make substantial contributions in caring for patients while taking a managerial role in ensuring patients obtain appropriate care.
The most crucial role of a clinical nurse leader is improving patient care. It focuses on promoting the well-being of patients and their families who are under their care by providing excellent leadership, facilitating the working together of nurses and providing evidence-based care.
