Imagine you are the new coding supervisor at a multi-physician practice. You do not have enough coders to keep up with the amount of coding the practice is generating daily. Because you don’t have the budget to hire new coders, you want to cross-train some of the front office staff to help with some of the simpler coding. This plan will reduce the amount of work your coding staff endures daily, as well as save the practice some money. You decide to prepare an in-service training for the front office staff to teach them how to assign E/M codes.
You will create two documents in preparation for this in-service training:
An E/M coding tool for the front office staff to use as a reference guide while coding
A PowerPoint that will form the basis of your in-service presentation

This first part of the assignment only asks you to conduct research to identify three credible sources you can use to complete the E/M coding tool and PowerPoint presentation. You will then provide the sources, a summary of each source, and an explanation of why you chose each source to your instructor. This gives you an opportunity to get your instructor’s feedback on your chosen sources before you begin writing the PowerPoint presentation.

This research summary is not graded; however, the final version of this assignment will be worth 20% of your course grade. This is also a good opportunity for you to gain some feedback from your instructor about your chosen source before you begin to draft your presentation.
