Drug Administration
Administration of drugs among children is done in a special way as compared to adults. This is because children are classified as special patients with unique health needs. There are two main ways in which drugs among children are administered. One form is through injectables where the dosage is injected into the body of a child. The other form is through solid tablets, which is more common among adults and less common among children. Besides the injectables, children are also given solution medicine that is easier to swallow as compared to solid tablets. In cases where the only form of administration available is tablets, then such are sweetened and have attractive colors. This is meant to ensure that administration of drugs among children is done in the most convenient way.
Disintegration and Dissolution
In administration of drugs, disintegration refers to the process of breakdown of a dosage from its wholesomeness to small particles and granules that are soluble in the blood (Florence, 2013). During drug administration the drugs are in such a form that cannot be absorbed into the blood streams. This means that once it gets into the body either through swallowing or injection, it has to be broken down. It is only then that the dosage can be absorbed into the blood streams.
