Two local hospitals recently received low rankings, with only one star awarded to the two medical institutions in July of the year 2016. The institutions are St. Antony's Medical Center and SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital. The star is based on the number of individuals at hospital institutions at a given time, which include waiting times as well as reviews of infection rates. The results compared to the national benchmarks were seen to be low, even though the institutions have debated the rankings, filing a petition in the house of professional's representatives (Thiels et al., 2016).
The overall ratings for hospitals and medical care institutions are instrumental in decision making among individuals, patients’ family members and caregiver professionals, so as to compare hospitals in a very clear and easy manner. The rankings can guide those seeking health care services to know where to seek specific professional treatment, while at the same time it allows the health care professional to understand where they fall with respect to the services they offer, and know when and where to give referrals (Trzeciak et al, 2016).
Reporting this data is instrumental in determining hospitals bottom line, as not everyone is willing to spend budgetary allocations on fines that can be avoided by improving the quality of services. Adherence to the standards is important in presenting a good public image, as a means of marketing and winning more trust of those who seek medical care. It is imperative that all institutions would want to be on the safe side of regulations (Thiels, et al., 2016).
