The nursing profession has gone through an evolution over time. Initially, being a nurse meant that they had to depend on directions given by other medical professionals such as doctors. However, the development of nursing brought nursing theory practices, models, and various interventions. Leaders in the nursing field came up with theories to help nurses to evaluate the continuously complicated patient care cases. The methods offer a strategy for the nurses to determine the course of action. When new situations come up, the approaches provide a plan for management, investigation, and offer a platform for decision making. Nursing theories offer a way for caregivers to communicate with each other or with the rest of the medical team (Roy, 2018). The approach enables nurses to come up with beliefs, objectives, and values that are important in their work.
The various principles of the nursing theory include the grand nursing theories which have a broad scope and regularly present general ideas and suggestions (Hoeck & Delmar, 2018). The approaches in this category do not apply to empirical research. Also, grand nursing approaches cannot be appropriate in determining the course of action or predicting outcomes in cases relating to care-giving. The conceptual frameworks in this approach are essential in designing nursing practices and finding ways of handling situations from their point of view (Kriston, 2018). Another tenet of nurse theory is the mid-range nursing theories, which offer an efficient way of bridging the gap between grand nursing theories and nursing practice. This class of concepts provides a means of formulating verifiable methods. Middle-range approaches are essential in giving descriptions, coming up with explanations, and predicting phenomena.
