The application of technology in the nursing process has significantly improved efficiency and accuracy. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a field of technology whereby machines tend to mimic human traits such as learning, thinking, perception, and planning. Even though the application of technology in nursing is still vague, it is necessary to understand how the technology works (Carroll, 2019). It is essential to understand that technology is machine-driven and should be used as assistance while making decisions.
In the nursing process, I think AI will impact critical thinking since it is complex and multifaceted. Predictive analytics is a segment in artificial intelligence, whereby machines analyze data from various sources to make future predictions. Critical thinking in nursing practice focuses on clinical decision makings, which could be assisted by predictive analysis of AI ("How artificial intelligence helps in health care," 2019). Since critical thinking is an intuitive process guiding nurses to think, learn, and predict future occurrences, they could use machine-driven predictions to expedite these actionable decisions.
