Introduction
Many lives within a health setting depend on the competent clinical reasoning. This, therefore, boils down to the fact that health care providers need to make efforts to improve clinical reasoning and care related judgments. The central reason for competent reasoning and problem solving is an element that should be incorporated in any clinical setting (Barry, Chan, Moulton, Sah, Simmons, & Braddock, 2013).
It is against this experience that it is significant to mention that critical thinking and problem-solving are terms both common to medical practitioners and involves the prospects of clinical, cognitive reasoning. Excellence in making professional judgments roots from the use of sound critical thinking skills. This paper, therefore, seeks to determine the elements of critical thinking in a medical facility involving a medical practitioner.
A Description of Mikes Situation
Mike analogy gives a description into our study. In the case study, his supervisor requires that he reports to duty on time. Mike tries to keep his word on arriving at work on time but along the way he encounters an accident that delays his reporting time. Mike has some responsibilities to take beside his work (Barry, et.al). He remains the sole breadwinner in his family and takes care of his wife and newborn baby, a factor that according to the case study gives an explanation of his lateness.
On his arrival at work, he sees a spill on the floor and is divided in opinion as to whether to clean it or call the attendants since this was not his area of work (Barry, et.al). Mike applies the efforts on clinical reasoning and makes a judgment to clean the spill. He informs his supervisor of the situation who commends him and advice that he makes up for the time lost at the end of the shift.
Consequences of a Failure to Report
In the event that Mike failed to report the incidence of the spill and severe injuries that could have been prevented occurred, he would have risked losing his job (Hsin-Pin, ien-Hsiang, ing-Jing, hih-Chou, & heng-Chin, 2015). In as much as the consequences of a failure to report a hazardous incidence within a health facility are severe, ignoring such a hazard may be detrimental to the health institution that Mike worked in since the safety of the patients and the employees were at stake.
Some accidents such as the spill that Mike saw on the floor can be avoided while other can be prevented if a problem is reported. Failing to report may occur in the event that an employee feels that some of the areas an incidence occurs are not their field of profession (Hsin-Pin, et.al). Some workers may have the feeling that reporting such hazards may not be within their jurisdictions particularly when they occur in different departments, and they feel someone else should take responsibility to report or handle such risks. Therefore, this may be considered as negligence that can result in court battles in an instance where accidents are encountered.
