TUI UNIVERSITY Huey Watson CRA500 MODULE 3 – SLP Dr. Marcia Mills Kaiser Permanente uses the participative and collaborative leadership style while advocating for strong teams. The organization has operations in various states, and while making decisions, there is emphasis on consensus-building. This is especially when implementing projects and proposed changes. The health care industry has gone through various changes in the recent past while the leaders support changes while communicating their visions to the employees. Under the leadership of Bernard J. Tyson, there has been a focus on collaborating with other stakeholders to achieve the goals while supporting team members to steer the organization (Kranz, 2013). Inspiring the workers to collaborate and work in teams has allowed the stakeholders to innovate in the workplace. Since Kaiser Permanente is a nonprofit health organization, the leaders collaborate with multiple stakeholders to achieve results. The collaborative leadership approach supports teamwork and partnership since there is mutual respect between the leaders/ management and the employees (Al-Sawai, 2013). The leaders and staff of Kaiser Permanente have significant responsibilities, where the team members are empowered to make decisions. Power sharing for teams is supported to facilitate participative leadership, with the leaders collaborating and taking into account the input of workers. This is crucial since there may be low satisfaction among employees when they feel that the leadership fails to consider their participation in decision making. Kaiser Permanente integrates services in a network similar to an accountable care organization (ACO), and this encourages collaboration among physicians and hospitals. The management is faced with the challenge of improving revenue streams while providing affordable health care. Since Kaiser Permanente also provides insurance services there are incentives to improve efficiency including integrating electronic medical records and technology to improve health outcomes. With changes in managed care the participative and collaborative approach is effective for Kaiser Permanente when sharing information with partners. Collaboration makes it easier to integrate changes since the input of different stakeholders is considered in the control and management of resources (Kaiser Permanente, 2016). The organization supports affordable and high-quality healthcare, improves health outcomes, and reduces health disparities and efficiency (Kaiser Permanente, 2016). The organization promotes collaboration with multiple stakeholders to implement health reforms. Improving the quality of...
