Since late last year, the world has been fighting against COVID-19, which has affected the global economy adversely. The pandemic has also interfered with how people interact due to the measures, such as social distancing, which have been implemented to combat its spread (Mackintosh, 2020). However, to negate the effects of COVID-19 on the economy, some cities like New York have started to reopen their businesses, which is something that might cause a surge in the rate of infections.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that healthy young adults might not show signs of coronavirus when they become infected. For instance, among the 382 service members who were in an aircraft that experienced the COVID-19 outbreak, 59% had neutralizing antibodies, 60% had reactive antibodies, and 1/5 reported no signs of being infected (Payne et al., 2020). For this reason, people are highly encouraged to wear face masks to reduce their chances of contracting the disease from asymptomatic individuals.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that over 7 million individuals have been infected with COVID-19, and more than 400,000 people have died from this disease (WHO, 2020). Although the situation is improving in Europe, it is deteriorating worldwide. As such, the WHO advises countries to be cautious about reopening the economy since that decision might cause a rapid increase in the number of infections.
