Challenges in negotiating conflicts
Negotiation between parties is not without challenges, and this affects how the people interact, communicate and resolve their issues in conflicts.  If the parties in a conflict do not have the same objectives, they will prefer different strategies, and this includes the tactics used by nurses and physicians (Kim, Nicotera & McNulty, 2015). Even when there is a focus on a win-win situation in negotiation, measuring success is not necessarily objective because there are differences in what ought to be achieved in negotiations.   This is further complicated by the power imbalance between the parties in a conflict since the most powerful person or people can impose their will against others. Nonetheless, when there are mutual respect and open communication, the parties in a conflict are more likely to trust each other and support negotiation.                                  
Nurse-physician conflict and role expectations    A nurse required to provide medication to the blood pressure patient who does not have all the patient information confronted by a physician when he reviews the patient case and identifies all that is required. In this case, the physician has a full picture about what is expected, but the nurse has a snapshot sometimes without all the specific details and even when they need all the information to make a clinical decision.  The nurse-physician conflict is closely linked with role expectation. The physician works with a team of specialists to make diagnosis or treatment and does not see there is a conflict with the nursing profession, and the physicians, gives directions, and the nurses implement it (Mayo & Woolley, 2016).).
