Comparison of Electronic Medical Record Systems Directions and Grading Rubric
*Directions: You have been given responsibility to make a purchasing decision regarding a new electronic medical record documentation system.

*It is expected that you will spend some time on these websites, navigating throughout them both to see what services they offer, what they state their claim to fame/outcome stories are, etc.
*You do NOT have to sign up for more information, a visit, etc. from the websites. You should be able to get quite a bit of info from the actual websites. However, you may have to search other sources for some of the information you may need later on in the essay.
*While this is not a hard assignment I do expect it to take some time to complete. I would expect this to not be a short essay (would want to see a minimum of two pages but expect more like three and no maximum requirement: write to your hearts content) Paper does require a title page and APA format.

*Introduction clearly reviews why it is important to compare and contrast electronic medical record systems when considering a large hospital based purchase.
*Paper must be in APA format and include URL’s from sites visited- 10 Points
(7 points for Content, 3 points for APA formatting)

*Discuss the overall Pros and Cons as YOU SEE IT for each of the Two systems compared: A minimum of Three Pros/Three Cons for each system.
*Reflect on a success story/’claim to fame’ outcome wise from each of the websites.
• What is the success story/’claim to fame’ outcome wise from each of the websites? How did you feel about their story/outcome story?
• If you are using an alternate system now (so you use EPIC or you use CANOPY/CERNER) are you able to see that claim to fame or success story also within the system you are using? By/In your everyday use of the system? How?
• Why might you choose one or another of the program for your hospital based purchase? What factors might you consider when making a decision like this? (expect you will need to research this a bit)

• Summary paragraph describes what the student has learned from the assignment
