Community health nursing involves the acquisition of extra additional special training that is inclined towards the field of community health or public health. The special training is aimed to produce specialized nurses who will, in turn, offer health-related resources to the community members with a focus on helping the low-income families to acquire quality health (Stephen Paul Holzemer, 2014). Through the study of public community health nursing, one can learn several things. One can comprehend the scope of practice of community nursing which entails a comprehensive assessment of health as well as controlling community health progress with the aim of achieving the health set goals. Community health also equips nurses on how to intervene early to diseases through reporting. A nurse can also learn the social support services that are needed to improve the health of the community members(Stephen Paul Holzemer, 2014). Community health nursing helps the trainees to develop advocacy towards the clients which makes them develop empathy which is necessary for medical practice. A nurse would acquire psychosocial, biophysical and cultural knowledge skills which enable them to be good health educators who can contribute to multi-disciplinary primary health care (Stephen Paul Holzemer, 2014).
Through community health nursing also a trainee can learn primary and levels of prevention regarding community nursing. Concerning primary prevention, the nurses can learn how to prevent diseases or injuries before they occur through the elimination of risk factors in the community (Nies & McEwen, 2014). This is achieved by educating people so that they can avoid behaviors that pre-expose them to diseases such as drug abuse or unhealthy eating.
