Commitment strategies are promises or mission statements that define the reinforced implementation or achievement of a specific goal (Forman & Butryn, 2015). They work by encouraging individuals to dedicate their time, effort and resources to achieve something that is meaningful and has a purpose. A commitment made to one’s self makes goal achievement more personal. It enables them to maintain their constant changes because they have comprehended their pledge (Forman & Butryn, 2015). In a behavioral change, this strategy encourages individuals to continue working on their fitness even in the absence of a trainer, or continue observing healthy diet without a nutritionist. Therefore, we need commitment strategies to execute performance and achieve desired goals.
When people are committed to a strategy and its implementation, they strive to implement it. Those who believe in the plan and its objectives are willing to make extra effort on its behalf, leading to better strategy execution performance (Forman & Butryn, 2015). We also need commitment strategy to promote pro-environmental behaviors. These are all possible actions aimed at safeguarding environment and avoiding harm (Lokhorst, et al., 2013). The hypothesis is that when we commit to a particular behavior, we adhere to that commitment, and this generates long-term behavioral change (Lokhorst, et al., 2013).
Yo-yo dieting is the cyclical pattern of losing weight by dieting and subsequently regaining it (Miles & Barrow, 2018). It is the process that causes weight to increase and decrease. Yoyo-dieters lose and gain their weight because they lose their determination towards maintaining a standard weight. They first limit their calorie intake. After extreme dieting, they lose their determination and self-control, making them binge on their favorite unhealthy foods until they regain weight (Miles & Barrow, 2018).
