Chest assessment is an important part of a patients’ physical examination because it provides findings that must be interpreted before a diagnosis is made. This essay is basically a teaching resource essay which focuses on providing students with important content to help them effectively perform a chest examination. Specifically, this essay will provide instructions on the different body systems that are involved in a chest assessment, the skills required, and the various techniques used in a chest assessment.
Purpose of the Teaching Resource
This teaching resource has been designed to make teaching and learning more effective by providing students with relevant content on how to perform a health chest assessment. Ideally, this teaching resource will facilitate interaction with students in the teaching and learning process so that students can become contributors and participants, not just listeners. In addition, this teaching resource will also ensure that the different learning needs of different students are met. This essay will also provide students with additional reading materials and videos that are very informative and relevant to the topic under study.
Usage of the Teaching Resource
To properly achieve its general and specific purpose, this teaching resource will be used in two different stages. The first stage involves analyzing the learning resources through presentation and interpretation (Busljeta, 2013). The required reading for this specific task is Javis’s Physical Examination and Health Assessment, 2nd ed. Students will be expected to read through the book beforehand so that they can share their insights. Synthesizing the information from the book is also part of this stage and students will be expected to share what they have learned and what they feel was not sufficiently covered so that more information can be provided. In addition, students will be expected to watch a YouTube video, whose link will be shared with them, that demonstrates how to assess the chest. During this stage, this learning resource will be used to facilitate student-student and teacher-student interaction, especially through participation in practical demonstrations of chest assessment.
The second stage in which this teaching resource will be used involves the evaluation of the students’ learning outcomes (Busljeta, 2013). This will be instrumental in determining whether the goals of the teaching resource have been achieved, based on how effective it was in providing students with relevant information.
Body Systems involved in a Chest Assessment
The chest assessment involves assessing the thorax, which basically encloses some of the key organs involved in blood circulation and respiration. As such, these are the main body systems involved in a chest assessment and an examination of the heart and the lungs is required. In addition, the ribs are also part of the chest assessment.
