Now that you've been introduced to CDI and its importance in the health care setting, do you know what it takes to hold a job in CDI? This assignment asks you to explore CDI job openings and reflect on the job responsibilities included in CDI positions.
1.) Conduct an internet search to find CDI job openings. Some good websites to start are https://www(dot)monster(dot)com/ and https://www(dot)indeed(dot)com/. You may need to use a few different search phrases to get a good list of CDI jobs; try "CDI" and "clinical documentation improvement" to start. You do not need to limit the search to your immediate geographical area, but you are welcome to do so if you prefer.
2.) Once you've found some CDI job openings, review them carefully, focusing on the job responsibilities listed within the job postings. Select three unique job responsibilities.
3.) Write a 2 page (500 word) reflection about the three job responsibilities you identified. Specifically, this reflection should accomplish the following:
Summarize the job responsibilities you chose.
Explain why each of these responsibilities is important to a CDI program.

Clinical Documentation Improvement has been a significant trend for many healthcare facilities. With the right tools and the right personnel, CDI has improved the recording and coding, and filing medical information in medical centers. Arguably, there are some responsibilities that Clinical Documentation improvement specialists are required to carry out that are eventually important to the concept of CDI in healthcare.
The Clinical Documentation Improvement specialist should educate the medical team about the documentation guidelines. The CDI specialist would carry out pieces of training, both formal and informal, for the physicians and staff to explain methodologies of improving documentation and record compiling. The CDI team may also sometimes include mid-level practitioners. The CDI specialist must educate these people who might have nurse interns, medical groups' assistants, and mid-level physicians (Rollins, n.d.). Physicians should eventually work with the CDI specialist when they are not in patient-care to fill in the gaps by completing patient records and diagnosis (Rollins, n.d.). This also helps prevent physicians and nurses from getting lost in translating the codes by learning how to access and use the data provided systematically and accurately (Rollins, n.d.). One of the importance of this role to CDI is that it helps the medical team to attend to a patient in a way that would be safe and beneficial to them. This responsibility is relevant to a CDI program as it requires a team of physicians, CDI specialists, and care management.
