Mr. C., a 32-year-old single man, is seeking information at the outpatient center regarding possible bariatric surgery for his obesity. He reports that he has always been heavy, even as a small child, but he has gained about 100 pounds in the last 2–3 years. Previous medical evaluations have not indicated any metabolic diseases, but he says he has high blood pressure, which he tries to control with sodium restriction and sleep apnea. He current works at a catalog telephone center.

The likely health risk associated with obesity that the 32 year old Mr. C could be suffering from is hypertension. Even though he tries to control it using the sodium restrictions and the sleep apnea, it seems as if the condition has been persistent. It is evidenced by almost 100 pounds that he gained in the last two to three years. This condition is serious and if not taken good care of, it may end up making the force of the blood to push against the walls of his arteries as the heart pumps his blood. The rising of this pressure may stay high over some long period of time and this will have a lot of damage to his body. Seeking medical advice at the outpatient center regarding the condition of his health is a huge step towards the right direction because if ignored, this condition will inevitably deteriorate his health. Given the condition of Mr. C’s health, bariatric would be the best intervention to curb the adverse effects that this condition would otherwise bring to his body (Appel, 2007). It is mainly because the benefits of conducting this surgery will enable him loose much weight.
What makes him an ideal candidate for this operation in the body is because he has: a weight of 134.5 kgs and anybody above the weight of 100 kgs would be recommended to go for the surgery. Moreover, he has a blood pressure of 172/96. Also, the he has too much fasting blood glucose in his body. Mr. C is just aged 36, and he can therefore not develop any side effects as a result of this surgery. The criteria for the surgery is that you must fall between the age brackets of 16 to 70 years. The surgery would be recommended mainly because he is obviously unable to achieve a healthy body weight in his entire life time despite the fact that he has been going on a diet that has been medically prescribed (Freedman, 2009).
Prior to the surgery, Mr. C has been diagnosed with the peptic ulcer disease. It therefore means that the following medications have been prescribed and he needs to take them on a daily basis in order to feel better health wise. Below is the administration schedule that will not only be most suitable but also therapeutic to our patient, Mr. C.
