1. Background
The use of modern and economically acceptable educational forms and resource-saving technologies are crucial to the work of nursing personnel to ensure the quality of health care services. The education and awareness about new technologies increase the satisfaction of the patient in the health care system. There is an increasing trend of innovations in the medical sciences which obliged every health care profession, in particular, registered nurses, to gain knowledge through adequate as well as certified education. Therefore, the proposed project is aimed at focusing on the educational need of registered nurses for their continuing education and professional development. The continuing education for the registered nurses will allow developing and introducing new methods of disease prevention into practice, restoring lost health, improving the quality of life, and increasing healthy life years of their patients.
2. Problem Statement
Different researches have focused on a number of issues due to which the registered nurses could not participate in the continuing education programs for their professional development. For instance, Shahhosseini & Hamzehgardeshi (2015) indicated that high workload and professional commitment prevent the participation of registered nurses in continuing education programs. Another research by Priscah, Robert, Omenge, & Anne (2017) examined the challenges faced by registered nurses in Western Kenya with respect to the continuing education programs. They indicated that there were several challenges for the registered nurses, including lack of finances, heavy workload, lack of time due to night shifts, staff shortages, burn out, and lack of information about the continual professional development and educational programs. It was indicated that there is a need for an increased level of professional responsibility and competence of registered nurses with continuing medical education.
Furthermore, the rational investments in the development of personnel, the buildup of material educational resources will lead to an improvement in the performance of the health system in general and of nursing services in particular (Testad et al., 2016). Therefore, it is highly recommended by a number of researches to provide opportunities to the registered nurses for getting enrolled in the continuing education programs and improve their professional development. Therefore, it is necessary to provide educational training for nursing specialists who are able to critically think, solve problems, and apply nursing process technologies in the workplace.
3. Purpose of the Change Proposal
The purpose of this change proposal is to bring the attention of health care institutions as well as the registered nurses towards the significance of continuing education.
