Public health is all about preventing diseases, promoting human health and prolonging life via organized ways, informed choices and well-versed actions (Zimdahl, 2012). The ethical theory or concept applicable to the public health policy I proposed in Module 2 SLP is the Principle of Respect for Autonomy. It is also regarded as the Principle of Human Dignity. It revolves around the idea that decisions taken by patients regarding their treatments or medications have to be respected. This means neither the doctor nor a nurse or any other member of the healthcare center can force patients to opt for their suggested treatment options. Instead, they have to bring a care plan before the patient’s attention, and it is then up to them and their families whether they go for it or not. It gives us a clear idea that there is no room for negativity or the incorrect use of force to interfere with the decisions taken by patients and their families. The proposed public health policy will be of no use if respect or value to the patients’ decision is not given.
