The Government should pay for Birth Control.
The government should pay for birth control in the same way it funds the prevention of HIV-AIDs and other medical conditions. According to a study done by the association of gynecologists in Canada, approximately 61% of women get unintended or unplanned pregnancy. This is a clear indication that the government’s social policy is not effective and it should therefore cater for the cost of birth control (Adshade & Bell, 2018). However, some critics argue that a person should take responsibility of birth control since the government was not directly involved in the event. Nevertheless, evidence indicates that the government provides coverage and drugs aimed at preventing HIV infection for individuals who are at the highest risk of exposure. Therefore, the government should take responsibility of birth control since it will imply that minimal funds will be spent compared to spending heavily on healthcare. Funding birth control will therefore save tax payers millions of dollar.
It is essential for the government to provide free birth control options to women since birth control is used in preventive care, unlike drugs that treat existing conditions such as diabetes or depression. It is crucial for the government to consider the power of birth control in preventing potential health problems and saving more money in the process. Essentially, birth control functions like a vaccine and not a medication (Adshade & Bell, 2018). It is possible for the government to capitalize on the positive effects it can have on the lives of many women when controlling their education and their earning potential. Thus, it is the government that should be more concerned about the welfare of its citizens and provide consumers with free birth control.
