Analysis of Servant Leadership Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Introduction Servant leadership concept presents the philosophy and sets of practices in an individual within the position of leadership that helps in the enrichment of personal life, improving organization’s leadership, and facilitate the creation of a just and caring environment for a human being. Robert K. Greenleaf termed leaders as a servant, who is expected to improve the lives of other people through the provision of conducive environment especially in their areas of work (Greenleaf, 2017). In the healthcare system, for instance, nurse leaders play an important role in ensuring the well-being of the patients while at the same time providing a conducive working environment for healthcare providers. As a volunteer in nurse leadership, I have worked in the position of the nurse manager in a multi-specialist hospital where I have managed to gain vast experience in leadership aspects within the nursing field as presented herein. Summary of the Servant Leadership Volunteer Experience I started my servant leadership volunteer in one of the multi-specialist hospitals named the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Sacramento. The organization was holding a Folsom Conference that was involved in food distribution, clothing, rent, utilities, temporary lodgings, travel expenses, and furniture. The major objective of the organization was to improve the lives of the poor people of all ages within the boundaries of St. John Baptist Catholic Church. Among the role, I played include working in the food lockers, clothing stores, receiving of goods donated by different stakeholders and well-wishers, and shelving of delivered and contributed goods. I worked in this organization through various departments for quite a long period, ensuring that I gain maximum knowledge of servant leadership as the major principle of the organization. Principles of Servant Leadership During my volunteer period, I managed to implement most of the principles of the Greenleaf’s servant leadership through my involvement in serving the members of the community who required special attention as per the statement and objective of Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Sacramento. One of the major principles of servant practiced in this organization is empathy. Through the leadership period as a volunteer, I realized that a leader is always required to understand others with their needs and opinions to enhance cohesion (Greenleaf, 2017). Poverty is an issue affecting a larger population globally. Healing is necessary to ensure collective growth through coaching and mentoring people on strategies to eradicate poverty as well as providing them with available aids. I realized that developing a conceptual perspective is essential in understanding the needs of others and it helps to internalize appropriate ways of providing support. Through the programs in this organization, foresight was an essential approach to project the occurrence of tragedies and identifying areas and people who need to be supported with the available resources. Being authoritative and dictat...
