“The belly rules the mind.” Spanish Proverb
The Spanish proverb, “The belly rules the mind” couldn’t be further from the truth if taken literally. Human beings tend to make decisions for taking a meal or merely eating when they feel their stomachs rumbling in hunger and not for any other particular reason. More often than not you will find someone taking a snack in the midst of busy work schedules to subdue their hunger without thinking of the nutritional values of the bite or health demands of the body. The proverb also literary addresses the people who make impulse decisions on food purchases without making proper considerations. However, the rising awareness in matters of healthy nutrition have seen considerable change in the eating process as it goes the other way round, the mind ruling the belly. Nowadays people are so sensitive about what goes into their stomachs and consider both the nutritional and health benefits of specific diets before indulging themselves. Healthy dietary campaigns around the world account for the rapid shift in dieting at home, schools or workplace. The stomach no longer controls the dieting decisions people make but takes what they decide is more nutritious and healthy for them. Unlike the proverb suggests, people are also controlling the amount of food they eat and at specified intervals, because it is their minds in control and not their bellies.
