According to the symptoms displayed in Mr., Apples case, it is clear that he is suffering from hypokalemia. This disease develops in the event that the serum potassium concentrations in an individual fall below 3.5 mEq/L (Celik, Karakus, Zeren, Demir, Bayarogullari, Duru, 2012). The less serum potassium levels depict a loss in the body potassium levels, a factor that causes the concentration gradients to change movements of the potassium from the cells into the ECF. Through this, the ICF/EFC concentration ratios in the body are retained but, on the other hand, the total potassium levels in the body deplete.
It is evident that the average serum potassium level is 3.5 to 5.0 mEq/L and in the event a patient has little potassium levels(less than 3.5mEq/L he is likely to suffer hypokalemia. The main contributing factors to hypokalemia include the increased ingestions of potassium into the cells, reduced intake of potassium, and the rise in the loss of potassium levels in the body (Sue & Kathryn, 2012). This disease is more prevalent among adults with low protein intakes and results from the inadequacies in consuming vegetables and fruits especially among individuals who take alcohol.
