Essay Instructions:

Identify a professional nursing organization and review their position on interprofessional practice
Review the following case study:
Case Study:
Ms. Tuckerno has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The patient receives care at an internal medicine clinic. Her internist is not in the office today and she is being treated by the nurse practitioner. The patient is on two medications for her MS, three different blood pressure medications, one medication for thyroid disease, one diabetic pill daily, insulin injections twice a day, she uses medical cannabis, and uses eye drops for glaucoma. Upon assessing the patient, the nurse practitioner (NP) decides her treatment plan should be adjusted. The NP discontinues some of the patient's meds and discontinues medical cannabis. She orders the patient to follow up in two weeks.
The patient returns and is seen by her internist. The internist speaks with the patient and reviews her medical chart. The internist states to the patient, "I am dissatisfied with the care you received from the nurse practitioner." The internist places the patient back on originally prescribed medications and medical cannabis.

Inter-professional practice
Interprofessional practice in nursing normally happens when healthcare practitioners collaborate with professionals within their own areas of the profession, with healthcare providers outside their professions, patients and their families based on a unifying language (Liaw, et al., 2014). This collaboration ensures proper comprehension that all the healthcare practitioners should contribute as a team, and enhance respect and build trust among the members. Furthermore, the members have the responsibility to introduce new members to the group and constantly support each other in case of mistakes. On the same note, they are supposed to be responsible, accountable, communicate, and cooperate with one another. Due to such, the nurses should possess skills such as assertiveness, autonomy, respect and cultivate a culture of mutual trust (Liaw, et al., 2014).
Based on the American Association of Nursing Practitioners (AANP), the Interprofessional practice is the collaboration and Interprofessional learning from healthcare practitioners of different professional backgrounds to work together with patients, families, and caregivers to ensure high-quality care delivery (Chism, 2015). Consequently, such activities lead to improved quality care, and job satisfaction among members. Under such circumstances, the nurses are supposed to assess, diagnose, treat and manage both acute and chronic conditions as well as ensuring health promotion and prevention of infections. On the same note, they are mandated to order, supervise, conduct and interpret both laboratory and diagnostic tests, prescribe medication and non-pharmacologic therapies as well as counsel and teach patients (Chism, 2015).
