Even though, technology adoption can improve productivity in the workplace, there is a need for the technology to be well suited for the workplace settings. One of the critical issues to promote the adoption of new technology systems is accepted by users. The perceived benefits of adopting new technology cannot be achieved if the users are unwilling to rely on the IT system (Huang, 2012). Hence, the adoption of the IT system and willingness of the users signal the likelihood that the technology adoption will be a success. Where possible identifying factors that influence the users’ motivation or resistance to using the new IT system is critical to the integration of the new technology systems.
Organizations might face challenges when adopting the new technologies, but having a supportive leadership is critical to IT success (Wager, Lee & Glaser, 2013). In other words, the leadership is better placed to support technology adoption. Employees may initially resist the adoption of new technology if it challenges their autonomy, but the support of the leadership ensures there is minimal resistance to change. This is especially when the opinion leaders who focus on the mission and values of an organization with the IT goals being aligned the organization values (Bernstein, McCreless, & Côté, 2007). The success of technology adoption from the early stages ensures that its implementation is also successful.
