Communication can be defined as the exchange of information, thoughts or ideas from one individual to another. When it comes to talking about the importance of communication within a healthcare setting, it can be said that different modes or channels of communication allow patients and their families to deliver the message to the medical professional quickly and efficiently.
In the Cleveland Clinic of Florida, the first mode of communication that should be used is downward communication. It is based on the idea that both nurses should be allowed to work at a high level, with or without the involvement of the hospital management, to provide patients with the required care or medical assistance (Daft, 2013). Upward communication, on the other hand, is a mode that may become involved when nurses have to convey a particular message to the doctor or hospital management. Horizontal or lateral communication is a type of communication in which two or more individuals operate at the same level or work under the same medical officer.
