The ability of an individual to being aware of their varying emotions and resorting to control them is known as emotional intelligence. In the pursuit of academic success, one has to master this art to have a smooth running. Emotional intelligence has a great effect in daily life as it sums up our behavior, our actions towards other people, and everything that surrounds us. Being able to decipher these moments makes one have a better understanding of their life and their purpose, spearing them forward in the strive towards academic success (Edelman & van Knippenberg, 2018). Part of the road to academic and professional success involves a lot of peer-reviewed research. We are in an era that has the most pre-accounted information in history, meaning there is something of note in every topic. Students must have the tools required to identify and apply these sources to their research for factual support. This essay seeks to determine the significance of emotional intelligence along with its practical uses and provides a detailed approach in identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research.
The road to academic success needs an individual to bear a level of self-actualization. Our emotional intelligence guides us to the actions we make and what we say, meaning we can build or break ourselves in society. Being aware of our emotional state means that we can script our life to eventually course in our favor rather than complaining about our lack of control (Edelman & van Knippenberg, 2018). The way we communicate contributes to how people view us and the opportunities we may attain. We must know how to express ourselves. Even though our thoughts may be very genuine, there is a risk of being misunderstood from poor conversations and displaying our lack of control of our emotional state. Emotional intelligence also gives us the tools to recognize opportunities from disaster (Martin, 2015). To accomplish this, we have to master ourselves to be able to decipher others and their true intentions in our lives.
One of the applications of mastering emotional intelligence is in most business sectors where excellent communication skills override actual qualifications. From how we talk and relate to people, we can form networks that boost us toward our success. This strategy is best applied in the workplace with arising issues that need solving while under supervision. In a school setting, this can be quite stressful when dealing with deadlines and loss of morale. Through emotional intelligence, one can be aware and pivot this moment instead of just trying to cope. We can identify pivotal moments to change solemn feelings to a more open-minded attitude for problem-solving. Self-motivation becomes achievable when we can hone it from our subconscious instead of depending on the external surrounding (Lin et al., 2016). Another professional application is in public speaking, where we must read the room; otherwise, you may end up just talking to yourself. Understanding the place allows the speaker to conduct themselves or change the mood in the room to what is favorable.
I chose this topic as I feel many of us are slaves to our expressions. Emotional intelligence is not something we learn; however, society expects us to act accordingly. People have...
