Information management systems assist in implementing quality improvement initiatives because they collect and manage information. According to Ross (2014), information management systems help in collecting and organizing data into a form that it useful. Once this information is converted into a useful form, it becomes easy for healthcare organizations to make informed decisions based on that data (Vuk, 2012). For example, if a healthcare facility want to find out the cost and viability of introducing a new department, information management system plays a crucial role in providing the necessary data that is analyzed to get the results that guide the management of the facility (Francis, 2013).
Practice, policies, and procedures assist management in adhering to proposed initiatives because they provide a process or a step-by-step procedure of providing care (Bell & Omachonu, 2011). Physicians and providers use practice policies as a guide to understanding their roles in patient care and deciding on the actions they should take (Ross, 2014). Generally, practice, policies, and procedures help in determining the benefits or harms of any treatments, as well as expected outcomes in providing healthcare.
