Regulations on RACs are necessary in recovering overpayments and to improve the clinical documentation. The Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) and electronic health records (EHRs), help in scrutinizing the submitted claims, and regulations covering the two to avoid fraudulent activities. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs program focuses on identifying and correcting the improper Medicare payments (Harrington, 2016). Healthcare providers face the risk of audits, fines and sanctions for violations and meaningful use incentive audits. The regulations help in streamlining the billing processes since the physician and physicians can focus on reducing medical claims denial while improving efficiency when implementing the EHR that meet the meaningful use requirements (Ferguson, 2014). Regulations RAC(s) and EHR(s) are potentially useful as performance incentives since there is emphasis on accuracy to eliminate fraud and improve efficiency. The regulations are effective since they focus on eliminating payment vulnerabilities and improving oversight (Harrington, 2016).
