Week Nine – Revisit Reflection Your Name Subject and Section Professor’s Name April 1, 2019 The ability to cope with cultural diversity within the classroom and foster a lasting relationship among the students is one of the most crucial skills that a teacher must be able to develop. By doing so, educators would be able, not only to foster camaraderie and to learn among the students but also prevent any potential conflicts arising from their differences. In line with this, the seminar that we attended has thought us about how educators can make international students feel comfortable during the learning process. It includes not only those children who are from other countries, but also those who are in the federal, territorial, and aboriginal governments, within the country. One of the most exciting points, presented in the lesson is how cultural dissonance affects the children’s ability to learn and participate in the classes. Such dissonance is said to be rooted in the differences between how the children were taught by their families, friends, and relatives in their local community and the method or teaching in the school setting. While many techniques could help in addressing such problem, it was discussed that one of the means as to how this could be done is by recognizing their cultural identity and identifying the particular cultural values that they value most.
