Reflect: Good research is a combination of many types of sources. Prior to taking this course, did you understand the differences between these sources and the importance of finding one type of resource over another?
Write: For this discussion, you will address the following prompts:
• Explain at least five differences between popular and scholarly sources used in research.
• Locate and summarize one peer-reviewed, scholarly source from the Ashford University Library and one popular source that pertain to your Final Argumentative Essay topic. In your summary of each article, comment on the following: biases, reliability, strengths, and limitations.
• From the sources you summarized, list and explain at least five visual cues from the peer-reviewed, scholarly source that were not evident in the popular source.

Scholarly sources by definition, are those written by experts in a particular field of study particularly for analyzing other findings or for sharing the findings of a particular study undertaken. Popular sources intend to catch a wide array of the audience and they address various issues in an informal tone. Students in many cases, find it hard distinguishing between scholarly sources and popular sources. Due to that, they are not sure of which to use. This paper compares the two types of sources used during research.
The major differences between the two sources aforementioned are that scholarly sources are written by experts in a particular field especially the professors while popular sources are written by non-specialists. To be published, scholarly sources have to undergo an independent review by a panel of experts which is not required in the popular sources. The one who reviews popular sources is the editor. Scholarly sources have bibliography and footnotes which may not be mentioned in the popular sources. Scholarly sources are often based on a particular field’s authorities and not personal opinions while popular sources may include current issues and personal opinions. Scholarly sources are more specific than the popular sources which tend to attract the attention of the audience.
