Preservice early childhood educators (ECE) and Elementary Teacher candidates (TC) perspectives play an important role in facilitating the learning of children with developmental learning. The teachers ought to support inclusive education, but also focus on what is most appropriate. In many cases, there are specific accommodations to adapt teaching and for the children with developmental disabilities and delays (DDD) (Frankel, Hutchinson, Burbidge & Minnes, 2014). Professional support including in preservice and other training programs is necessary to improve the inclusive practice.
Inclusive education in different early childhood settings is now the preferred way to deliver educating for children with developmental disabilities and delays. However, teachers ought to be well peppered to teach in inclusive settings as well as have knowledge and skills to teach children with diverse needs. Adequate teacher preparedness in inclusive seething affect the learning outcome, while the teachers beliefs, attitudes, perceptions and concerns also affect the teachers willingness to promote inclusiveness. Knowledge about development disability and delays may influence the teaching strategies that the teachers use to facilitate inclusiveness to enhance early childhood education.
Inclusive education is more likely to be successful when teachers have a positive view of inclusion, they are well prepared and the children are placed in age-appropriate classes. Various studies show that placing the children with DDD alongside those with no development issues is beneficial (Odom et al., 2011) as reported by Frankel et al (2014).
