The characters give accounts of their experiences with the inhabitants of the rich states they visited and how they would cope with the challenges. Migrants face tough situations over the period spent in developed nations like London and the United States. The book this land is our land is developed by a series of personal experiences endured by the characters and the lessons learned at the end of each challenge faced. Through the explication of these themes through the lives of these characters, I have been able to learn different things that will be expounded in my article. Often, authors write stories of heroes and their episodes of bravery. However, it is uncommon to see an author write about bravery and courage through the acts of feeble people. However, in the book The Land is Our Land, An Immigrant’s Manifesto, the author makes good use of the feeble and forgotten of the society and through them reveals the theme of bravery and courage. In one incident, a migrant tells an old British man in London that he had visited the country to collect the treasures the colonies had stolen from his native land. This action shows an escalated level of boldness and definitely, the old man is rendered speechless. The characters don't hide their disappointment from the fact that they would have counted themselves lucky to dwell in such countries but unfortunately standing the oppressions received from the inhabitants is a major challenge forcing some of the foreigners to go back home. Social classes and discrimination according to race get down to some characters who go through hardships dealing with colleagues and school mates in some states. The blacks suffer severely at the airports as they have to wait for long on the queues while the whites get priorities despite the arriving time. One of the characters in the book went through a subsequent series of bullying from a fellow student in a school-based in the United States. The bully addresses the young boy as a mouse making the incidence look like an entertainment section to the rest of the classmates. The principal shows an aspect of partial treatments for some students by telling the affected scholar that some of those incidences were normal. Unfair treatment is evident because intimidation and not caring for other individuals’ feelings cannot receive normality as the scapegoat for handling migrants in disrespectable manners. This bit is reflective for me because it leads me to think about the current president of the United States. President Trump has been criticized often for referring to migrants as criminals, rapists, and illegals among other bad associations. The savagery in which he handles the issue of migrants leads me to think of the plight of migrants. Lucky for some migrants, they had already persevered a lot and the situation was not only a continuation of the challenges and but also normality their daily lives.
