Introduction
Since the genesis of the COVID-19 pandemic, many things have changed, affecting the way we live. Most of the people have been rendered jobless, and schools came to an indefinite closure. Looking at the impact of these unforeseen events reveals lots of goings-on to both the students and parents as far as their daily interaction is concerned. Therefore, most parents and guardians have found themselves relaxing in some of their roles and instead developed an attitude that may not necessarily bring rapport with their children but instead, cause a rift.
Conflicting Emotions That May Make Parents Contribute to Fear
One of the emotional responses arising from the separation of a child's parents and teachers is the fear that the latter will replace the parents in their children's affections. Different conflicting emotions from the side of the parent are often evident. Without any doubt, there is an issue of insecurity. Parents may feel insecure about their position in their children (Veríssimo, et al., 2017). It happens when they perceive that the teacher has taken over their function as a parent, which causes a lot of fear.
Another conflicting emotion is a competition whereby the child seems to be attached more to the teacher than the parent. There is a belief that the parent should come first concerning a child's attachment while the teacher takes the second place. Guilt is again a challenge to the parents. They might be busy due to work and, therefore, feel that they do not help their children and spend quality time with them as teachers do.
However, parents are aware that being part of parenting, the teacher works hard to instill discipline to their children in a desirable way. A child who does not learn how to respect parents and other older persons may get lost in his/her future.
Child Relationship with the Parental Figure when Having Attachment with Others
For the young ones' survival, they are born equipped with a wide range of innate behaviors. The behavior of attachment enables them to draw people closer to them in times of need.
Sometimes the child is highly attached to their caregiver more than his/her parents. The parents become secondary attachment figures, and sometimes the father, if he is more responsible and sociable than the mother, can be the primary attachment figure (Branje, 2018). Bowlby says that this relationship continues until the child becomes an adult.
