OBSERVATION – ENVIRONMENT: You MUST observe a preschool setting and write a summary of this. During the observation, you will look for signs of ABC (Anti-Bias Curriculum) and the lack of the same. OBSERVATION ONLY ANTI-BIAS ISSUES. Look at the books, dramatic play area, dolls, manipulatives, foods, art materials, puzzles, blocks, etc…for signs of Anti-Bias issues. Are the dolls really racially correct? Are they anatomically correct? Do the books illustrate all cultures? Are their dress up clothes for boys and girls? Is the Center avaiable to disabled children? Are there any disabled toys? Does the food represent all cultures? Are there family photos around that depict all kinds of families. This is not a complete list by any means but just some food for thought. You will have to look at all areas – age, culture, class, race, gender and disability. The early childhood education bears several names. These are nursery school, pre-kindergarten, pre-school, childcare, early education and day care. This education has various settings namely; home-based, in urban, public schools, rural community, center-based among others. These schools operate privately as businesses for profit gain, or non-profit institutions. However, other schools operate under the public schools.
