In the case of Patrick Verriour, the community of practice is crucial in helping him recover from cancer. The community that learns alongside him incudes his family, particularly his wife. He was 58 years and did not have many people around him. After being diagnosed with cancer, the only solution he had was to retreated to himself as a way of coping with the condition. Additionally, he also relied on his wife to be his voice and for support. Initially, he was only a part-time participant in her life since they stayed in different locations, but that changed after cancer. He now feels empty when she leaves the house.
