My Philosophy Statement on Education Writing Assignment

                    Philosophy Statement on Education Name Institutional Affiliation                     It is important to note that Piaget’s theory of cognitive development could be used to complement my educational philosophy. Specifically, the theory posits that children develop their cognitive abilities in four main stages beginning with the sensorimotor period (0 to 2 years). During the stage a child’s cognitive development is restricted to motor reflexes at birth that later develop into more complicated procedures. In my opinion, children need protection for them to maximize their potential, which should be provided in this stage. The next stage of cognitive development is the preoperational thought stage that develops when a child is between 2 and seven years old. During the stage, children acquire representational skills and develop egocentric perceptions about their environment. Critical to the discussion is the fact that I believe students should be left to learn on their own implying educators should allow students in this age brackets to develop their own views. The next stage of cognitive development is the concrete operations stage that occurs when a child is between seven and twelve years of age. In this stage, children learn to appreciate opinions from their peers in addition to taking into account more than one perspective.
