Fostering student motivation is a challenging but crucial aspect of teaching that instructors and educators should consider. Some teachers have taught classes where the students are engaged, motivated, and excited about learning; however, teachers have also interacted with distracted, disinterested, and unwilling to engage. Different factors shape student's inclinations towards educational performance. It is critical to note that some students consider good academic performance as essential for influencing future growth and career development. On the other side, lack of motivation may create a barrier that hinders academic success. The social cognitive theory may explain that individuals' motivational processes are facilitated by factors such as goals, social comparisons, and outcome expectations (Schunk, Dibenedetto, 2019). Therefore, students' motivation can facilitate better performance when the learner focuses on the outcomes, such as better grades and recognition.
Different factors affect motivation among students. These may include teaching methods. The learners are likely to remain motivated in a learning environment where teachers use various teaching techniques that facilitates diversity and perspectives of different students. For example, interactive teaching methods that encourage teacher-student interaction may make students willing to engage fully with their teachers, improving performance. Further, parental influence, peer pressure, and self-efficacy would also impact the students' motivation level (Yilma, Şahin, & Turgut, 2017). For instance, in an environment where parents show interest in the child's learning by ending parent meetings and encouraging them to complete would help motivate the student and result in better performance.
